Autisim "Re-Imagine" Awards

The Autism Society of Los Angeles (the same group that spearheaded the Self-Determination Program), gave out their "Re-Imagine Awards" on April 30, 2016. It was a nice, comforting, non-pretentious event where persons with developmental disabilities, presented awards to persons with developmental disabilities. The recipients were Sue Ruben, the subject of academy award nominated documentary; RJ Peete, co-star of "For Peete's Sake"; Jeremy Sicile-Kira, Artist; Dillan Barmache, ...who is featured in Apple's ads for typing 4 change and Enrique Duarte, a Rock Guitarist. The presenters however were equally as interesting: Howard McBroom, a Motivational speaker with autism; Elena Ashmore, a person with Down Syndrome and co-star of Born This Way; Diana Uglade-Lara, an advocate with cerebral palsy; Neal Katz, star of Autism: The Musical and Andrew Hain, another self-advocate with Autism.

I encourage all to attend these events. They provide an opportunity for those with disabilities, to see yet  another model of how life could look.
